HACMP
HACMP takes advantage of AIX 5L™ - the high-performance, scalable UNIX® operating system from IBM - and exploits its systems and network management capabilities. AIX 5L is one of the world's most open UNIX operating systems and includes functions to improve usability, security, system availability, and performance. These include improved availability of mirrored data and enhancements to Workload Manager for AIX 5L that help solve problems of mixed workloads by quickly and dynamically providing resource availability to critical applications. Used across the IBM ® pSeries® family of on demand servers along with the Reliable Scalable Cluster Technology (RSCT) infrastructure technology layer in AIX 5L, HACMP can provide both horizontal and vertical scalability without downtime. And to keep the business running even if the entire site or city is disabled, HACMP/XD (Extended Distance) extends HACMP’s protection by replicating critical data and enabling failover to a remote site even hundreds of miles away.
| High Availability Cluster Enhancements |
HACMP V5.2 is tightly integrated with AIX 5L to exploit some of its most powerful features. New features and enhancements make HACMP V5.2:
Simpler to configure and more flexible to maintain:
- The Two-node Configuration Wizard configures a cluster in four easy steps
- The Cluster Test Tool allows the evaluation of cluster behavior under a set of specified circumstances
- Enhanced security mechanisms protect the integrity and operation of a cluster
- Web-based cluster management allows the configuration, monitoring and management of a cluster from a Web browser
- Automated nightly cluster verification reduces the risk that a change to the cluster may negatively impact a cluster at a later time
- HACMP File Collections provide an easy way to request that a list of files be kept synchronized across a cluster
- The optional feature HACMP Smart Assist for WebSphere® eases the configuration process for select WebSphere services
Faster event processing speeding application recovery:
- Improved policy-based cluster manager intelligently and automatically responds to failures and removes the need for script-based management
- Up to 40% faster failover than HACMP V5.1 in basic clusters, minimizing application downtime
- Streamlined resource movement by the cluster manager enables faster response to failures
- The ability to define cluster-wide dependencies simplifies the configuration of complex clusters
Goes the Distance to provide availability across multiple sites:
- AIX 5L Logical Volume Manager (LVM) split mirroring for disaster recovery in SAN environments
- Optional feature HACMP Extended Distance supports unlimited distance geographic clustering and data mirroring options to enhance disaster recovery
- New support for Enterprise Remote Copy Management Facility (eRCMF) with HACMP/XD for Enterprise Storage Subsystem (ESS) PPRC
