The Future of Storage Architecture & Data Management
April 21, 2009 - Ft. Lauderdale, FL
April 22, 2009 - Orlando, Fl
We thank you for the tremendous response we have received during these events. More than 150 customers participated in the span of two days in Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando. The symposium included presentations and discussions about:
- Cloud Computing
- How the explosion of data, compliance, and security have impacted the management of IT
- Business Intelligence, Disaster Recovery, Eliminating your Backup Window, Data on the Edge
- (Managing 'Untethered' Devices), The Promise of Cloud Computing, Managing IT in an Uncertain Economy
Mike Hill, Vice President of IBM’s Cloud Computing Initiatives, gave the attendees alot of food for thought. Cloud computing is a real innovation in the Information Technology industry. It gives you the ability to use the resources that you own and manage at much higher utilization rates and move those resources to the jobs that are most important to your corporation. These environments are called Private Clouds. Cloud computing also makes available the use of Public Clouds. These Public Clouds can be used when needed to supplement the resources of your Private Cloud. This way corporations can manage less resources day-to-day with the availability of additional computing power when they need it.
IBM presented a look at the future of storage with the architect and vision of a new storage platform. Moshe Yanai, the inventor of the EMC Symmetrix has found a way to take inexpensive industry standard components and architect a platform of high availability, high performance, lower power utilization, and simple manageability. Mr. Yanai gave us his vision of what storage architecture should be and how to accomplish that vision. IBM’s new XIV platform is a revolutionary new architecture that not only accomplishes Mr. Yanai's vision, but adds a lower cost model to the equation. With the growth of data this is the direction that more and more companies are looking for and almost all companies need.
