Moen, North America's largest manufacturer of faucets and plumbing, was looking to implement an enterprise-wide IT infrastructure that would enable them to keep up with business demands. Because this innovative-driven and consumer-focused organization strives on providing the best global fashion plumbing and accessory products, it was business critical that they have the corporate agility to adapt rapidly to every business request.
Faced with nearly 150 different Windows-based servers, Moen needed to improve their daily operations with an innovative technology solution rather than invest in additional hardware and increase headcount to manage it. To achieve their goals of maximizing efficiency, improving IT agility and minimizing costs, Moen looked to VMware Enterprise VIP Reseller Champion Solutions Group. Based upon Moen's requirements, it was concluded that a VMware Virtual Infrastructure Sofware solution would enable them to better use their resources and cut their operations expenses.
At the beginning of the project, Moen realized VMware Workstation's capabilities of consolidating different systems and increasing hardware utilization after they had much success with running their Windows and Linux OS's onto on a single desktop computer. Moen then utilized an evaluation copy of VMware ESX Server™ for a short period of time. After quickly recognizing the additional resources it gave them, it was an easy decision for Moen to phase this software into their IT infrastructure. To ensure a smooth migration of Moen's applications into Virtual Machines, Champion used VMware P2V Assistant. They now have two ESX systems at their Disaster Recovery site, as well as two ESX systems at each of their remote locations. After deploying ESX, Moen added VMware VirtualCenter™ to the virtual infrastructure stack for optimized server management and control of computing resources. VMware ESX and VirtualCenter provided them with advanced resource management controls, allowing IT administrators to guarantee service levels across the enterprise. This capability has created a highly reliable and flexible computing platform for Moen staff.
As a result, Moen is now a full user of VMware Virtual Infrastructure Software (VMware VirtualCenter, ESX, Virtual SMP, VMotion) and has been able to achieve numerous results. In addition to corporate agility improvements and significant cost savings, Moen's business units now have greater confidence in their ability to deliver and help them work more efficiently. Furthermore, Moen is currently using a trial version of VMware ACE™ to enhance their IT infrastructure security throughout the enterprise.
